The 2026 Xiaomi Sky Nomad has truly pushed the limits of what can be achieved with Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs).

While the 2026 BYD Denza N8L offers an impressive 430 km of pure-electric range, the Xiaomi Sky Nomad N90 Max and N70 Max take things to even much greater heights, pushing pure-electric range to a staggering 464 km and 505 km, respectively.

The territory we are entering in the world of electric mobility is becoming almost unimaginable.

While pure BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) continue to push and expand the 1,000 km range envelope, PHEVs are achieving what can only be described as remarkable breakthroughs or even miracles. And perhaps even more exciting is that these advances are no longer confined to the premium end of the market—they are increasingly trickling down into more affordable models, exactly as we anticipated.

Take the Changan Deepal S07, for example. Its PHEV variants have long offered 200 km, 215 km, 285 km and 300 km of pure-electric range before the internal-combustion engine comes into play.

And BYD has clearly decided not to be left behind.

The company has recently introduced the 2027 BYD SEAL 06 and 2027 BYD Qin Max, with pure-electric ranges reportedly reaching 230 km to 320 km before the internal-combustion engine kicks in.

This is a significant shift in the automotive industry.

We are moving toward a future where long-range driving is no longer exclusive to Internal Combustion engine vehicles. PHEVs and BEVs have rapidly evolved into vehicles now covering most daily journeys entirely on electric power, beyond and more than what Internal combustion engine vehicles can do.
